EPIDEMIC ALERTS
SCENARIO: The county health department has received multiple reports of a mysterious, highly contagious disease from local hospitals. In order to minimize the risk of further transmission, the county health department must act quickly and tactfully to contact the proper authorities and inform the public.
SOLUTION: The county health department launches a pre-constructed notification that first informs the CDC of the situation. The notification then contacts hospitals that have already reported cases of the disease to ensure that proper quarantine measures have been enacted. Notifications to these hospitals are scheduled to repeat in order to receive up-to-the-minute reports as to the symptoms of infected individuals. The notification also alerts other hospitals in the area, identifies known symptoms and reviews proper steps to take in case an infected individual is admitted. Finally, local media is notified and a press conference is scheduled to properly inform the public.
EMERGENCY STAFFING
SCENARIO: An earthquake strikes a major metropolitan area. It destroys several buildings and causes injury to thousands. In the ensuing aftermath, a local hospital finds itself critically understaffed and unable to effectively deal with the sudden influx of patients.
SOLUTION: Based on previously set scheduling, the MIR3 notification system is able to differentiate between employees who are currently working from those that are off duty. Utilizing this feature, the hospital is able to quickly select only those who are off duty and launch a notification requesting that they report to the hospital as soon as possible.
INVENTORY OF AVAILABLE RESOURCES
SCENARIO: A major disaster in a nearby town results in an overwhelming number of injuries. The town's hospital is unable to admit any more patients and asks to send over some of the less critical cases. An immediate count of available space and supplies must be conducted in order to gauge their capacity to assist.
SOLUTION: Using pre-set scheduling features, the MIR3 notification system selects only nurses currently on duty. A notification is then launched to all on-duty nurses requesting a count of available beds and supplies in their section. Data received by the MIR3 notification system is updated in real time. Administration is able to view response reports, contact the neighboring hospital, and provide exact information within minutes of receiving the initial request.
